poem: i am out

27 Nov

i am out

graying eyes
no longer see
these words
monogrammed to flesh
white hot fade
a memory no longer worth
notes in a song

every flame cools
eventually
every echo ends

at last

trees feel no revelry
daylight holds no memory
what once began as a path
cleared of brush, tree and shrub
now
overgrown
fast buried beneath
unbending bough
of a sky that holds
no moon
